Overview

The Master of Science in Sustainable Organizations and Policy (M.S.O.P.) degree is offered jointly by two highly ranked schools at Syracuse University, the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and the Whitman School of Management. Through coursework and unique experiential learning opportunities, students gain the skills and knowledge to become competent in economic, social, and environmental sustainability and their interdependencies from public and private perspectives.

The M.S.O.P. degree can be completed in one year of full-time study. Students in the program take courses in both Maxwell and Whitman, and the degree’s flexible elective structure allows students to tailor the degree to their research interests and career goals. Throughout the program students are able to take what is learned in the classroom and apply it to real-world and career preparing scenarios, including the opportunity to be a research fellow in the Dynamic Sustainability Lab.

Students successfully completing the program are classified as STEM-designated. This allows international students on an F-1 visa to extend their time in OPT (Optional Practical Training) to 36 months in the U.S. This makes graduates from STEM-designated programs better positioned for hiring and they gain valuable experience in this growing and in-demand area of the marketplace.
