Student Learning Outcomes
- Identify historical changes during the premodern era.
- Analyze the cultural products of different geographical regions in the premodern era.
- Describe at least two disciplinary approaches to global premodern studies.
- Apply central issues and methods of scholarship from multiple academic fields to their own research of the premodern era.
Requirements
Students who minor in Global Premodern Studies explore the vibrant historical, social, visual, intellectual, political, religious, and literary cultures of the premodern world. Taught by dynamic scholars whose teaching and research interests span medieval and early modern Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas, courses in the minor give students the opportunity engage with perennially relevant issues related to life, death, sexuality, faith, power, conflict, ingenuity, and creativity.
The minor is open to all undergraduates.

III. Global breadth: | ||
A. Courses are labeled by the region or culture on which they primarily focus: Africa, East Asia, Europe, Indigenous, Latin and South America, Middle East, North America, South Asia, transnational. | ||
B. Student may not count more than three courses focused on the same region toward the minor. Additionally, no more than four courses in total focused on Europe and North America will count. | ||
C. This requirement applies to both Introductory and Upper-division courses. | ||
IV. Language: | ||
A. Prerequisite: One semester of any language (other than English) is required to declare the minor. An AP score of 4 or higher in any foreign language fulfills this requirement. | ||
B. An additional semester of foreign language study, in any course numbered 300 or higher, may count toward the Upper-division requirements. | ||
