Introductory proficiency-based course which prepares students to understand, speak, read, and write in culturally authentic contexts. Activities are conducted in Japanese. No prior experience or admission by placement testing. Students cannot enroll in JPS 101 after earning credit for JPS 102, JPS 201, JPS 202, or higher.

JPS 305 Japanese for Professional Purpose (3 Credits)

This 3-credit course is designed for students to foster the skills and the knowledge of effective cross-cultural and inter-personal communication in Japanese needed in professional fields. The class activities, assignments and projects are designed to enable the students to learn Japanese business custom and issues as well as vocabulary and usage appropriate in various situations.
