Introduction to knowledge management. Provides students with an understanding of theoretical and technical concepts, models of knowledge management and how they contribute to return-on-vision and return-on-investment driving organizational success.
KNM 310  Knowledge Capture and Codification  (3 Credits)

Overview of the first phase of the knowledge management cycle, capture of explicit knowledge, and tacit knowledge creation. The major approaches, techniques, and tools used to elicit tacit knowledge, to trigger the creation of new knowledge, and to subsequently organize this content in a systematic manner (codification) are presented.

Major steps involved in developing a knowledge management strategy are presented including knowledge audit, gap analysis, elicitation of KM objectives, short-term roadmap and the long-term KM strategy, and previews organizational learning and memory.

KNM 403  Process Continuity and Future Planning  (3 Credits)

Addresses knowledge continuity management (KCM), the KM team, future challenges and knowledge management disciplines and nuances. KCM is a specific application of knowledge management with a goal of identifying valuable knowledge that is vulnerable and at risk of being lost due to the departure of one or more employees.
