Exploration of the history of organ building and music making through primary and secondary source readings, listening and score study, field trips, lectures, and discussions. Study of wind ensemble repertoire of the past 500 years. Emphasis is placed on historical trends, genre and instrumentation, national schools, and the concurrent development of music for chamber winds and concert bands. Additional work will be required of graduate students.
